Following European expansion in Dublin, London and Berlin over the past few years, Reddit is now opening its first regional sales center in Amsterdam.
Centrally located in the wider European market, adjacent to countries with a strong customer base such as Germany and France, and developing a competitive talent pool, the Dutch capital has proven to be an ideal location to further support the growth that the US-based company has experienced in Western Europe.
The hub's mission is to bring together the EMEA platform markets in a central location and support a wide range of customers across Europe in meeting their advertising goals. It will have over 50 sales and engineering staff and will also serve as the home base for the EMEA Ads Engineering team.
According to Susanne Mostertman, director of small and medium-sized business (SMB) sales for EMEA, who will lead the center, the company plans to significantly increase both the sales and engineering teams by the end of 2023, and Amsterdam will be the largest on Reddit. offices in continental Europe by number of employees.
"We know from our research that Reddit users in Europe are open to ads or content from brands on the platform and are more likely to trust a brand that participates on Reddit than brands they see advertising on other platforms," Mosterstman told TNW. "By expanding our footprint in Amsterdam – and Europe more broadly – we're better able to connect Reddit's audience with the brands they care about and care about."
This new chapter for Reddit in Europe, Mostertman added, allows the platform to focus on teams and resources that can best serve its advertisers in the region "with local and country experts ready to provide tailored advice."
These efforts will be supported not only by large advertisers such as Google, Warner Bros. and reMarkable, but also European startups. The Amsterdam hub already works with a number of existing partners, including payment provider Klarna and refurbished equipment marketplace Back Market.
"Partnering with Reddit has allowed us to reach a wide range of communities - from technology to fashion and everything in between - to promote responsible shopping at the right time," said Salah Said, head of sustainability at Klarna.
Reddit's new European office will be located in Amsterdam's Plantage district in the city center. Hiring is still ongoing and the company plans to hold a hiring event later this spring.
