A new report from Tom Henderson suggests that Call of Duty 2023 will be revealed in August, specifically the first of the month, according to the latest information shared by sources.
Henderson also revealed the current schedule leading up to the game's launch. The first beta weekend for Call of Duty 2023 is expected to launch on Friday, October 6 and run until Tuesday, October 10, exclusively on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 due to Sony's marketing deal with Activision. As in previous years, the second beta test should open for all platforms the following week.
Early access to the campaign is set to begin on Thursday, November 2 across all platforms, with the official release date set for Friday, November 10.
In early 2022, Jason Schreier suggested that there would not be a premium Call of Duty 2023 game, marking the first break in annual releases for the franchise since 2004. At the time, he anticipated a new free-to-play game. an online title would take its place.
However, Activision was quick to inform fans that they had "premium experiences" on the way. In November 2022, Schreier said it would be an expansion for Sledgehammer Games' Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II.
However, this February, Tom Henderson's sources said that Call of Duty 2023 will be a standalone premium version. The information was backed up by Activision's own statement that the full annual premium version would be available later in 2023.
Later in February, Schreier maintained Call of Duty 2023 was essentially an expansion of Modern Warfare II, with modes and maps expected to carry over from the previous installment.
Sledgehammer's most recent game was 2021's Call of Duty: Vanguard. Set during World War II, the game was not well received by critics or fans, leading to an underwhelming sales performance for the publisher.
According to Tom Henderson's report, Zombies mode should be available at launch. However, it is expected to be a different experience from the traditional Zombies mode created by Treyarch, which is expected to return in 2024 in the Call of Duty game developed by the studio.
In any case, the Call of Duty 2023 premium game will not be part of the upcoming PlayStation Showcase event, which is rumored to take place the week of May 25.
