Sony Mobile has officially confirmed that it will be holding a launch event for its new device, cleverly using the wording "the next one is coming". so there is no doubt as to what will actually be announced.

What to expect from the Sony Xperia 1 V event

Sony Xperia 1 V

Sony's smartphone releases are fairly regular, so confirmation of the launch of the event for the next Xperia 1 is not a surprise. There have been some leaks that point to a phone that has almost the same design as the current model with a 6.5-inch display offering 4K resolution. Sony is still one of the few brands that offers native 4K display resolution. We'd expect it to move to Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, so there's plenty of power, but we suspect the big change will be in the cameras.

Sony is testing a next-generation camera sensor. This is one area where Sony has pushed hard with the Xperia devices, aligning the camera experience with the popular Alpha series cameras. It's currently unclear what the new sensor will offer, but Sony has often shied away from competing with other brands based on specs alone, so we wouldn't be surprised if this sensor was more of a technical change than one designed to grab the headlines.

Sony Xperia 10 V

Sony often launches its flagship phone alongside its lower-end device, the Xperia 10. This puts Sony Mobile at the top and bottom of the market, usually followed by another device – the Xperia 5 V – later in the year.

We haven't heard much about the Xperia 10 V, but leaks suggest that it's likely to be a fairly simple update to the Xperia 10 IV from 2022, although we'd hope for a bit more power overall to ensure a better experience.
